Mirall for Studios / Closed beta

Your studio's files.
On your studio's machines.

Mirall moves plates, renders and masters straight between the computers that need them. Your work never passes through anyone else's servers: no cloud upload, no transfer service in between, no third party holding a copy. The Mirall Console gives you control over every install.

How it works

One space per project.
The people on it decide who gets in.

Create a space for the project

A space holds a project's files, folders and people. Name it, pick an icon, and it exists on your machine. There's no account to sign up for and no server to set up.

Invite people, then approve them

Send an invite link that expires after 2 hours, 2 days or 2 weeks. With approval required, everyone who opens it asks to join, and a member lets them in. An invite carries the address of the space, never the key to it.

Drop in files or whole folders

Drop a cut, a turnover or a folder of plates onto the space. Files are shared in place, straight from your disk, so nothing is copied or uploaded first.

Download files. Mirror folders.

Members download the files they need, when they need them. Folders can be mirrored: a read-only copy on their disk that keeps in step with the owner's folder as it changes.

Take the files you need

  • Resumes where it stopped after a dropped connection, a sleep or a restart.
  • Every piece is checked on arrival, and the finished file is verified against its hash.
  • Each project downloads to its own folder.
  • See who already has a file, and who is still waiting for it.
  • Set upload and download limits so transfers don't take over the line.
Mirror

Keep a folder in step

  • A read-only copy kept in sync at the location you pick.
  • New and changed files arrive without anyone asking for them.
  • Edit a mirrored file and the shared version comes back, with your edit kept as a conflicted copy.
  • A mirror only removes files it delivered itself. Stop mirroring and the files stay on disk.
Access

Permissions live on the project.

Only members see a space

Files are served only to approved members. To anyone else, a request looks like the file isn't there.

Whoever shares, owns

Only the person who shared a file or folder can rename it or stop sharing it. Mirrors are read-only for everyone else.

Invites that expire

Every invite link stops working after 2 hours, 2 days or 2 weeks. Choose whether each new person needs approval.

Infrastructure

We don't store your files.
We have nowhere to put them.

There's no Mirall cloud. Files travel from one member's disk to another's over an encrypted connection. When a direct connection can't be made, they pass through a relay, and that relay can be one you run.

Relay

Run your own relay

Studios behind strict firewalls still need a way through. Mirall's relay is blind: it forwards encrypted data and can't read what it carries. It runs on your own server, and the Console sets it for every install.

More about the relay →
  • Used only when a direct connection can't be made.
  • Keep it private with an invite list, or open to anyone holding its key.
  • Open source: Relay Lite under Apache-2.0, the full relay under AGPL-3.0 like the app.
Mirall Console

Run Mirall across the studio
from one place.

The Console issues licenses and sets the configuration of every install. It manages Mirall without ever touching your work. No file, file name or space key ever reaches it.

License keys

A key for each person

Each key belongs to one person and carries the configuration their computers receive. One person can use it on several machines. Suspend or revoke a key at any time.

Configuration profiles

Set it once, lock it everywhere

Choose the relay, require the activity log and encrypted backups, and lock them on every install. Publish a new version and computers pick it up, signed and sealed to their license.

Instances

Every computer, at a glance

See which version of Mirall each computer runs, whether its configuration is up to date, and whether its backup is working.

Audit log

Every change, with who and when

Issued keys, published profiles, new computers and member changes, each recorded with who did it. Filter by person or period and export to CSV.

What the Console sees
  • Each computer's name
  • Its Mirall version and operating system
  • Which of its settings apply
  • Whether its backups work
What it never sees
  • Your files
  • Your spaces
  • Who you share with
  • Mirall keeps working if the Console is unreachable.
  • A license never stops a transfer.
  • Backups are encrypted with each person's own passphrase.
